Boujie French Toast

I'm going to jump straight into this recipe but read below to learn more about it!

Ingredients:

  • 6 eggs

  • 1 1/2 cups milk or half & half

  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 1 loaf of Challah Bread with Cardamom, Orange & Honey from SeMe Family Foods

  • Butter

Directions:

  1. Start the warm setting in your oven. If your oven doesn't have the warm setting, set it to the lowest setting (170 or 200 Fahrenheit). Place an oven safe dish in the oven to be warm and to place the french toast as it is finished cooking.

  2. In a casserole dish, whisk together the eggs and milk. Add in the vanilla.

  3. Slice Challah bread to desired thickness. I usually do between 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices

  4. In a frying pan, put a pat of butter on medium high heat to melt.

  5. While the pan heats, place 2-3 bread slices into the casserole dish to soak up the bread and milk mixture. Don't soak too long that it is soggy but long enough that the mixture does permeate the bread.

  6. Once the butter has melted and the pan is heated, place the slices into the pan. They should sizzle like when you crack an egg onto a hot pan. The goal is to get the slices crispy.

  7. When one side is browned, flip it and start soaking the next round of slices. Make sure the slices are a bit darker than golden brown to make sure they are thoroughly cooked!

  8. When the slices are cooked, place them into the dish in the oven to keep warm as you continue cooking through the loaf. Add butter into the pan as needed to make sure the pan is lubricated and you can keep the french toast cooking in a crispy manner!

  9. Serve with maple syrup, or your favorite syrup or jam from SeMe!

This dish is the boujiest, most delicious french toast I have EVER had. I was so proud of myself when I worked it out that I knew I needed to write up and share it with you for a Tasty Thursday! The orange, cardamom, and honey truly shine through as it is baked into the bread instead of just being on the outside. Now, if you are waiting for your order from SeMe to arrive, I'm sure you could use regular Challah bread and add some orange zest, cardamom, and honey into the liquid mixture but it just won't be on the same level. Order their bread- TRUST ME!


I haven't been disappointed by anything I have received from SeMe. I recently ordered lemon rolls to try thinking they would be ok and something fun to try in quarantine. Those lemon rolls are one of the best breakfast foods I have ever tasted and I will be so upset if they ever stop making them! I love supporting this small business and this amazing family!
